The Forest Friendly Tea project is a sustainable program that allows the harvesting of tea that grows wild in the middle of the mountain forests of northern Thailand and Sri Lanka (Adam's Peak), in complete harmony with the rest of the vegetation, while avoiding deforestation and soil erosion, respecting biodiversity and providing sustainable income to local communities.
Characteristics of an organic Forest Friendly Tea
A Forest Friendly tea is made from the wild tea plant, Camellia Sinensis Assamica, which, unlike the Camellia Sinensis Sinensis cultivated in large tea plantations, is born and grows in a completely natural way in the middle of the forest. Camellia Sinensis Assamica does not need pesticides, fertilizers or irrigation systems. It is nourished by the surrounding ecosystem, which gives the tea unique qualities, flavors and aromas. Forest Friendly Teas are high quality teas (only the bud and the first two leaves of the plant are used for its elaboration) and very aromatic.
The Forest Friendly Teas of Thailand
Very aromatic, fruity and floral, with full body and full flavors. They cannot be classified according to the traditional aromatic families of traditionally grown tea. The flavor and aroma is somewhere between Black Tea, Green Tea and Oolong. Each variety has its individual personality.
