Health benefits of rosehip tea

Rosehip is the small, round, red/orange fruit of the rose plant.

There are hundreds of rose plant species, although Rosehip tea is mainly made from the fruit of the Rosa Canina plant, very common in Europe.

An excellent source of vitamin C, rosehip is a common ingredient of a great variety of herbal tea blends, especially energy-boosting herbal teas rich in vitamins.

Let’s discover some health benefits of rosehip tea.

Rosehip: a “fruit” loaded with vitamin C

Rosehip can be consumed either fresh or dried.

The fresh “fruit” is used in the preparation of purees, juices, jams and jellies, soups (cold soups in Scandinavia) and even drinks (similar to wine or beer, in Switzerland and Germany).

The dried fruit is the ingredient of numerous herbal tea blends, especially in energizing, revitalizing blends.

Although rose hip is often associated with hibiscus, it is also found in combination with other plants rich in vitamins and minerals, thus providing even more health benefits, and with superfoods (goji berries, moringa ...)

rosehip tea health benefits

What is rosehip tea good for?

The main interest of rosehip, though not the only one, lies in its high content of vitamin C, which provides very beneficial anti-infectious, antibacterial and revitalizing properties.

Did you know that 100 grams of dried rosehips have between 10 and 50 times the amount of vitamin C found in such fruits are kiwis, lemons, oranges and other citrus fruits, which makes them some of the richest vegetal sources of Vitamin C?

Throughout history, rosehip was one of the only sources of Vitamin C available to fight infection and disease.

During transatlantic expeditions, sailors used it to fight scurvy. More recently, during the Second World War, the English and Scandinavians used rosehip syrup to benefit from its medicinal properties, due to the interruption of the imports of oranges.

Rosehip is not just loaded with Vitamin C.

It is also a good source of vitamins A, E, B1, B2, minerals (iron, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur) and antioxidants (flavonoids).

Here are some more health benefits of rosehip tea:

- Rosehip boosts the immune system and strengthens the body’s natural defenses.

It prevents and relieves the symptoms of cold, flu and other respiratory conditions, and prevents vitamin C deficiencies.

- It is an anti-fatigue natural remedy due to its high content of vitamins.

Rosehip is particularly indicated in case of temporary mental or physical tiredness, and to support convalescence.

It also gives this extra energy that will help avoid the fatigue that may be felt at the end of a long winter.

Rosehip is often used as a general health tonic.

- In traditional Chinese medicine, rosehip is used to prevent and treat UTIs (urinary tract infections).

- Rosehip helps keep your veins healthy. As a vein tonic, it is used to improve the tone and structure of the vein walls and to prevent or relieve varicose veins and hemorrhoids.
