What is chocolate? 

Chocolate is obtained from two products derived from the seeds of cacao tree (native to Mexico): cocoa mass (cocoa solids) and cocoa butter. 

To this base are added different ingredients depending on the type of chocolate: sugar in the case of dark chocolate, sugar and powdered milk in the case of milk chocolate. 

White chocolate contains cocoa butter, sugar, and milk, but no cocoa solids. The higher the percentage of cocoa, the healthier the chocolate, as the supply of nutrients, minerals and antioxydants will be larger. 

Chocolate can be found with a cocoa content of 70%, 85%, and up to 99%!

The health benefits of chocolate 

Cocoa is a great source of natural antioxidants called polyphenols (especially flavonoids) which are also found in fruit, vegetable, tea and red wine. 

Flavonoids have powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects that provide numerous health benefits.

- Fight against free radicals, responsible for cell damage and degenerative diseases.

- Protect the heart and cardiovascular system, thus reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

 Chocolate is also said to have aphrodisiac qualities, due to its content of tryptophan, which plays a role in the production of serotonin (the “hormone of happiness”, responsible for regulating mood), and phenylethylamine a substance we produce when we fall in love!
